Section 1 - INTRODUCTION

Welcome to snapshot!

This web site is an exciting new way to learn about the basics of photography. This tool is not to teach you solely about how to take pictures with a manual 35mm camera, it is designed to compliment CDES 97 at Chico State. Use this page to better understand the art of photography. Snapshot is also designed as a study aide.

At this site you will find that the most important issues will be covered:

  • Anatomy of the camera
  • The basics of exposure
  • Exposure and shutter speed
  • Exposure and aperture
  • Depth of field
  • Inter-relations of f-stop and shutter speed
  • Glossary of terms
  • We know beginner photographers are confused with all the technical details. Hopefully with this web site, you can clarify your misunderstandings and ease the confusion behind 35mm photography.

With the skills learned on this page and in class, you will be able to enjoy the art of taking pictures.
